Stories
The costumes for the show were provided by the cast and
their families. Emily's costumes in the second and third acts were made
by Nola Shingledecker a week before opening night. We are eternally
grateful to our mother the seamstress.
The show started each night with all the curtains up on
stage and the two assistant stage managers coming out to sweep the floor
and set some of the pieces.
The show was performed with no props, excepting a handkerchief.
The only set pieces were chairs and stools. No tables, backdrops, or
other items were on stage with the actors at any time. We begged the
director for tables to eat at, but he wouldn't bug on the issue. As
a result, the various families often ate at different levels (must have
been that lighter than air porridge the mothers were serving).
Mrs. Gibbs' apron was a window valance bought on the way
to the opening night show.
On almost every night, most of the characters on stage
who should have been crying were actually crying.
Rachel volunteered on casting day for the role of the
gravedigger, who became know as Josephine.
The cast party was held at Sarah's house and was one of
the best ever cast parties. There was more food than you'd think college
students could rustle up and we learned that Sam is a damn fine cook.
The video of the final performance was captured by Nola
Shingledecker (moms are great) and will someday be made available to
the cast members (promise!) Clips will be available on the website in
the future as well.
