Music
We chose to do this production of Our Town with
very little sound. There were no sound effects. The only sound elements
present were certain musical pieces. One of those musical pieces features
heavily in the story, a hymn called Blest Be the Ties that Bind.
This hymn is sung several times throughout the show and ties the first
and the last act together.
The song was performed a capella, but we did have
music to help us learn the song. In addition, I recorded the verses
to help everyone pick up the words and melody more quickly. You may
download the recording if you would like. The lyrics are below.
Lyrics
|
Blest be the ties that bind
our hearts in Christian love.
The fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
Before our Father's throne
we pour our ardent prayers.
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.
|
We share our mutual woes
our mutual burdens bear
and often for each other flows
a sympathizing tear.
Amen.
