The much anticipated second performance of the UTSA
Players was a definite success. Though our opening week got off
to a slow start, the second week played to nicely full audiences.
Nearly every night, the audience left with a tear in their eye
and something to think about.
The story of Our Town is a simple one. Act
one is a day in the life of the small New Hampshire town of Grover's
Corners. As a member of the audience, you witness the mothers
of two families, the Webb Family and the Gibbs Family, go about
their morning rituals of waking the children and preparing breakfast.
You witness the first spark of romance between George Gibbs and
Emily Webb, and learn more about the people of this small town.
In the second act, you are invited to a wedding,
the wedding of George and Emily. But first, you get to witness
the moment that Emily and George finally realize, and admit to
themselves, they are truly, well "meant for each other."
Finally, in the third act, you experience a town
in grief, as one of their own dies in childbirth. The families
come together to attend the funeral, and Emily, the unfortunate
soul that must learn to leave the living behind, relives her twelfth
birthday, what will hopefully be a happy yet unimportant day.
The pages on this site recapture the joy and sadness
that is Our Town. Please enjoy your stay.
